Pyongyang, July 13 (KCNA) — North Phyongan Province of the DPRK is directing efforts to preventing natural disasters. The counties of Sakju, Kujang and Unsan set the stage-by-stage goals for river improvement and have dredged river beds, raised the ground level and built masonry retaining walls by increasing the operation rate of heavy machines. Agricultural workers in Ryongchon, Tongrim, Sonchon and Pakchon counties increased the drainage capacity by readjusting waterways and ridges between rice-fields and are cultivating crops in a more scientific and technological way. Farms in Jongju City and Kwaksan and Yomju counties are concentrating their workforce and means on protecting crops and land from tidal waves and typhoons while monitoring the weather conditions. Hydro-power stations, including Suphung and Thaechon power stations, are grasping the volume of water kept in store and the change of water level, repairing and readjusting dams and floodgates and protecting the generating equipment. The power transmission and distribution units in the province have established a well-regulated system of maintaining equipment while taking measures to prevent the possible thunderbolt damage.
